Mark DeRose Kid’s Music

For 3 years (’12 to ’15), Mark had the pleasure of performing and working as a sideman in the children’s music market (Steven Courtney & the Suitcase Musicians, Bassist). He never realized how rewarding it would be to perform for this demographic.

When Mark’s tenure with that project came to a close, he quickly began his own work as a solo artist in the children’s entertainment market.

Reflecting upon what he learned during his time as a sideman, he set out with the main goal of offering a show with a very positive and “feel good” experience.

Mark’s very happy to say that ever since this time, he’s been working very regularly within the Pennsylvania Library Summer Reading System and the overall children’s music/entertainment market. His show combines his love for the visual arts with his love for songwriting. Mark’s songs, art work, videos and the show’s activities all compliment one another in an effort to communicate his message that encourages his young listeners to embrace and enjoy life to it’s fullest, be creative individuals, and most importantly, confidently be themselves.

In the coming years, Mark is going to be working to take his show into new venues and events within the children’s entertainment market. He’s very hopeful and excited to share his show’s “feel good” message with as many children as possible!

“His music tells stories which can be related to by both the children and the parents. We have had Mark perform at Martin Library for two summers in a row, and both times everyone has come away smiling and perhaps humming a tune or two.  In his own gentle way, he draws the children in and gets them to participate through talking, acting out the lyrics, dancing and this year they even had the opportunity to drum along on his special one-of-a-kind handmade drums!” – Trish Bissett, Youth Program Director Martin Memorial Library

“Mark tailored his songs to his audience and encouraged self-expression and acceptance throughout his program. Even our littlest audience members were moving and grooving to Mark’s music, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves!” – Sysha Irot, Director of Youth Services, Shippensburg Public Library

“Mark’s performance is fabulous! The lyrics are fun and give a positive message to the children. His show is interactive for the children, which makes it a hit! Mark offers an engaging performance, which portrays his love for music and children!” – Gina Staton, Youth Program Coordinator, Dillsburg Area Public Library

“Mark’s sound has the rhythms of rock, blues, and Americana, with lyrics that are accessible for children. The performance is engaging for all ages because his words create worlds to which children can relate while also capturing the interest of older listeners.” – Lisa Rand, Youth Services Coordinator, Boyertown Community Library
